Getting to the hotel requires a bit of walking from the shuttle bus stop at the train station, and the location feels remote. It's a 20-minute trek to the city center and markets for those who want more action. There's also a ramen restaurant on-site, but its appeal after a substantial kaiseki meal seemed puzzling, as we didn't feel hungry enough for more food. While the rooms have a unique layout that's traditional, the evening bed setup caught us off guard since we expected them to be ready upon arrival, and we had to wait until dinner to have them laid out.

Stunningly beautiful hotel with favourable location next to the bus stop in the Hida Takayama Onsen district. Extremely friendly staff, spotless and elegant room in our own private japanese garden. Location near the main attractions and the town center and Takayama City old town shopping area

The location met every demand, it was good away from the center of the city. And we were really close to the nearby attractions and Kanazawa.
Nothing, all excellent!

comfortable stay but minor heating issue
The staff provided really good personalized attention, our comfort. The kaiseki dinner was a culinary delight, highlighting locally sourced ingredients in an elegant presentation. The onsen experience was peaceful, particularly the outdoor bath with its fine mountain view.
The underfloor heating made the room uncomfortably warm during the night.

The guests can immerse themselves in the relaxation of Hida's easygoing ambiance, with beautiful traditional rooms that exude tranquility and traditional Japanese aesthetics. The breathtaking surrounding landscapes and soothing hot springs make it the perfect place to unwind and rejuvenate after a long day of work.
This is my second visit, and the English level of the staff has declined.

The guestrooms at Hidatei Hanaougi are amazing! They are cozy and comfortable, with everything you need for a great stay. The beds are sooooo soft, and the room has all the modern amenities like free WiFi and a TV.
Personally, I'm not a big fan of the tatami-mat flooring and Japanese futon bedding. However, I understand that some people might enjoy the traditional Japanese style.

The cute staff greeted us at the entrance and took care of every detail. The onsen was a highlight, offering a relaxing and private experience. The food was excellent, with delicious kaiseki meals that left us satisfied. I highly recommend this hotel for an authentic Japanese ryokan experience.
The only drawback was the small size of the private hot spring bath, which required us to take turns using it. But this did not diminish our overall enjoyment of the hotel.

Staying in a ryokan in Japan is an essential experience. A traditional guest house with mats, Japanese-style showers, and private hot springs is an unforgettable option. Hidatei Hanaougi is an excellent choice for a wonderful and relaxing period. Food is entirely Japanese, and it's a treat, especially Hida beef. Highly recommended! Located near the Old Town shopping area, there's plenty to see and do. Rooms have beautiful balconies that offer stunning views and amenities such as a Zojirushi kettle.
Though there are private dining areas, communal eating may not be for everyone.

Christmas at this traditional Japanese guest house was an interesting experience. The room decor was nice and comfortable, and the private bath in-room was a plus. The hot spring foot bathing area was also a nice touch. The staff was friendly and accommodating, always polite and gently bowing. The food was mostly traditional Japanese, and while it wasn't my favorite cuisine, it was an interesting cultural experience.
The location wasn't great, quite secluded and hard to find. The shuttle from the station was hard to spot, and there was nothing nearby within walking distance.

This hotel offers an exclusive and upscale Japanese experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff greeted us warmly and the modern and traditional decor was impressive. the room was luxurious and had many exclusive amenities, such as the yukatas and samue, and the private dining room for dinner and breakfast. the kaiseki dinner was a feast for the senses and the onsens were very relaxing, with Pola products to use. the shuttle service was convenient and we enjoyed exploring the nearby markets. Simply put, this hotel fulfilled all of our luxurious needs and exceeded our expectations.
The only minor issue we had was the language barrier with one of the staff members, who had difficulty understanding us. this did not detract from our overall experience.
